The Cause of Acid
Reflux Disease
How to Get Rid
of It For Good
To find a natural cure for acid reflux disease
we must first understand the cause of acid reflux disease.
Many doctors and scientists theorize that the
cause of GERD is an incompetence of the lower esophageal
sphincter to close. Increased acidity or production of gastric
acid can contribute to the problem, as can obesity, tight
fitting clothes and pregnancy. It is also thought that yeast
infections of the digestive tract can be a cause of acid reflux
disease. Yeast is absolutely True!
Other factors that can cause acid reflux
disease are:
Hiatus hernia which is a protrusion of the
upper part of the stomach increases into the region of the body
that extends from the neck to the diaphragm of the lungs. This
condition can increase likelihood of GERD due to mechanical and
motility factors. Surgery is recommended if indeed this is the
cause of acid reflux disease in your body.
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is a disorder where increased levels
of the hormone gastrin are produced, causing the stomach to
produce excess hydrochloric acid. Often, the cause is a tumour
of the pancreas producing the hormone gastrin. As these tumors
are benign, they are only removed if the disease cannot be
controlled with medication. These conditions are extremely
rare.
Hypercalcemia or an increased calcium level in the body can
increase gastrin production, leading to increased acidity and
be a cause of acid reflux disease.
Scleroderma and systemic sclerosis which are both characterized
by excess deposits of collagen can cause acid reflux
disease.
The Most Common Cause
of Acid Reflux Disease
The cause of acid reflux disease is simply the
result of incomplete digestion in the stomach and small
intestine. Whether it is from a lack of hydrochloric acid in
your stomach, or not enough enzymes being released by the
pancreas. The food then sits there and ferments, creating gas
and other digestive distress as the whole mess backs up into
your esophagus.
Now because of the fact that our bodies are
designed to provide 50% of the enzymes to digest foods and the
other 50% comes from the food itself if those enzymes are still
alive. Most of these enzymes are quite dead, you see cooking
foods above 118 degrees kills all the enzymes. Right from the
get go you are enzyme deficient.
If the lack of enzymes wasn't enough, our diets
today are loaded with sugars, which trigger the pancreas to
release insulin to calm the sugar fire. The very same pancreas
that creates enzymes for digestion. Our pancreas are over
worked and more than likely not producing the digestive enzymes
you need to complete the digestion of the foods you eat.
These undigested food particles can also end up
deposited along the colon walls as compacted wastes and
restrict the perasystolic action of the colon from dumping the
waste from the entire colon. The good bacteria present in the
intestine will go to work trying to remove these wastes by
producing lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and enzymes used to
digest or dissolve this waste.
These good bacteria are also being killed
constantly from the processed foods we eat and drink, the
medications we take, and the chemicals we expose ourselves to
on a daily basis.
The largest cause of acid reflux is
the under production of hydrochloric acid
and/or digestive enzymes. That's right...under production,
not over production.
The Journal of the American Medical
Association says that only 10% of older adults have normal
levels of hydrochloric acid production in their bodies for
digestion. In the 1930's both John Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic
did studies on thousands of people over 60 and half of those
had functionally low stomach acid production. They did not
produce enough for complete digestion but enough to cause pain
from "indigestion".
We also know for a fact that Zollinger and
Ellison syndromes, which are the over production of acid are
very rare. Dr. Barry Marshall proved that ulcers are not caused
by acid but h. pylori, a bacteria.
Webster's dictionary defines
indigestion as: "inability to digest or difficulty in
digesting something". It's not because of over production of
stomach acid that would most certainly turn that steak into
liquid, hydrochloric acid will burn a hole in steel, but under
production that won't. There is just enough acid to cause
burning because the meal backs up into the esophagus
because it is not digested and sits in the stomach way to
long.
The common over the counter ant-acids quench
this little bit of acids in many cases but you are
treating the symptoms and not curing the problem. What do you
think the affect of undigested food is?
Your body suffers a lack of
nutrients because the nutrients in the foods cannot be
absorbed, because they were not digested into small enough
particles. Result, you age faster and your health can
deteriorate as the aging process picks up speed because you are
literally starving to death.
Thankfully, the natural cure for acid reflux
solves most of the cause of acid reflux
disease issues once and for all.
