Diet To Lower Cholesterol

A Surprisingly Simple Diet to Lower Cholesterol

You may have been told that you need to follow a diet to lower cholesterol to get your high cholesterol under control?

You may have been told to avoid one of the best protein sources on the planet, eggs, because they contain cholesterol. This is a myth, eggs do not cause high cholesterol. However, normal commercially raised eggs contain a high ratio of omega 6 fatty acids to omega 3's. This can be a partial cause of high cholesterol because it gives the liver what it needs to produce cholesterol. On the other hand, organic and free range eggs are one of the best foods you can eat and do not cause high cholesterol.

A diet to lower cholesterol is really very simple to follow, you just eliminate the foods which the liver uses to make cholesterol. These foods are; it's a short list:

  • Hydrogenated vegetable oils or trans fats, read your labels

  • Saturated animal fats
  • Excessive sugar and processed grains
  • That's

it! Pretty short diet to lower cholesterol isn't it? It is also very easy to follow and here are a few tips:

  • Only use olive oil or macadamia nut oil for cooking needs. These are mono unsaturated fats which have been shown to lower cholesterol and help prevent full-blown heart disease.
  • Trim your meats of all the animal fat before you eat them. It is best to trim the fat before you cook the meat so the fats do not saturate the meat.
  • Avoid sugar since it can create high triglyceride levels that can be converted to cholesterol by the liver.
  • Avoid simple processed grains that are easily turned to sugar during digestion.

On the diet to lower cholesterol you can check the labels of prepackaged foods for cholesterol content.  However, we only get 15% of our cholesterol from foods and this cholesterol is usually flushed form the body as waste. Now if your cholesterol level is 300, then that could possibly lead to a 45 point reduction in your cholesterol levels? And then it might not, since cholesterol is made by the liver for a reason, mainly to keep you alive.

Stress, coffee drinking, smoking, and excess body weight also contribute to higher cholesterol and triglyceride levels so try to minimize or avoid them. Body shape is a good indicator of cholesterol levels. People with excess abdominal fat, commonly men, have higher levels, especially LDL. People with excess body fat in the hips and thighs, commonly women, have lower levels, especially LDL.

Part of your diet to lower cholesterol and these natural cures should include some regular exercise. Exercise is the best stress reducer there is and will help you to loose weight if you need to. I would avoid the typical cardio routines since they have been recently found to actually weaken the heart.
